Hans Zimmer Won’t Be Composing Superman

By |2019-05-25T14:41:01-08:00December 6th, 2010|

Last week a rumor spread that composer Hans Zimmer would score Zack Snyder’s Superman film. It wasn’t an odd rumor considering Superman is produced by Christopher Nolan, whose last three films were scored by Zimmer. The man himself cleared things up on Superman:

[…] John Williams, the greatest living composer — full stop. And that happens to be one of his greatest themes. So no. And I’m not thinking of rewriting Beethoven’s ninth either. It just sounds like a thankless task, you know? So that’s unequivocally a no. I have never spoken with Zack Snyder.”

-Hans Zimmer to The Hollywood Reporter.

Zimmer does have a point: The Superman theme composed by John Williams is a classic that’s synonymous with Superman. It could potentially hurt the new movie to compose a new theme. Whoever composes for the new movie should write compositions for scenes, but keep the theme intact.

Musical Comedy Starring Robert Downey Jr.

By |2019-05-25T14:41:01-08:00December 4th, 2010|

Warner Bros. pushes forward a musical comedy with a script and lyrics written by Brian Yorkey, and music composed by Tom Kitt. The award-winning team developed the story with Anonymous Content, along with Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan Downey. And yes, Robert Downey Jr. will star in the musical.

Downey will play one of the two songwriters who become bankrupt after their first big musical becomes a failure. Searching for creative inspiration, they become counselors at their childhood theater camp.

Robert Downey Jr. has experience in theater, including Broadway show American Passion. He’s a very charismatic actor, and it’ll be a pleasure to see him bring his singing onto the big screen.

What can I say? I’m a huge fan of the man. I’m stoked for his musical comedy.

Aaron Eckhart Confirms Two-Face Won’t Appear in The Dark Knight Rises

By |2019-05-25T14:41:02-08:00December 3rd, 2010|

More news comes through for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises: Aaron Eckhart met with the director and brought up how people are curious if Two-Face will be making in appearance in the film — unfortunately Nolan informed him that Two-Face won’t make an appearance in the third film.

“Chris and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us … I said, ‘Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I’m in the next Batman. And Chris said, ‘Yes?’ I said, ‘Am I?’ He looked at me and he said, ‘No.'”And I was heartbroken. I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on.”

-Aaron Eckhart to MTV News.

I still would’ve preferred Two-Face making a cameo despite the end of his story arc in The Dark Knight. Eckhart is a talented actor, and he’s clearly passionate about the role of Harvey Dent.

News on Zack Snyder’s Superman Film

The new Superman film’s producer Christopher Nolan has handed it off to director Zack Snyder, according to producer and wife of Nolan, Emma Thomas. After putting together an appropriate screenplay, Nolan is now focused on The Dark Knight Rises, and effectively made Superman Zack Snyder’s picture.

Christopher Nolan’s Last Batman Film Confirmed

By |2019-05-25T14:41:02-08:00December 1st, 2010|

Christopher Nolan confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises will be the last Batman film that he and Christian Bale will work on. Nevertheless, Nolan said in an interview that he’s happy to work on the third and final Batman movie.

“I must say that I’m glad—I’m very, very glad—to be embarking on the last chapter of our Batman saga without any sense of obligation or duty to the studio. They did very well with Inception. So I’m able to go into finishing our story in a very enthusiastic way.”

-Christopher Nolan

Now the question on people’s minds is whether Warner Brothers reboots the franchise or not. It shouldn’t be necessary. Comic books continue moving forward with their stories despite getting new artists and writers. Why not do the same with the films? It’s limiting to keep rebooting comic book movie franchises and retelling the same stories. There’s decades worth of stories that could translate well onto film.

Heath Ledger’s The Joker to Cameo in The Dark Knight Rises?

By |2019-05-25T14:41:02-08:00November 30th, 2010|

The late Heath Ledger redefined the Joker in the medium of film in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The latest in the rumor mill for the third Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises is that Nolan wants to use unseen footage of Ledger’s Joker.

“The idea is to use these fragments of cut scenes and use CGI to have The Joker appear one last time.”

-An insider

The unnamed insider went on to say that the footage would only be included with the full consent of Ledger’s family — and hopefully they do — Ledger’s Joker was captivating. And let us not forget that the Joker is an essential part in Batman. He may spend half the time in Arkham Asylum, but he’s still a threat who Batman drops in on every now and then. It would add to the continuity of the trilogy.

But of course it’s only a rumor. Regardless, the Joker should have a brief cameo in some form — even if he’s just spoken about in passing. He is Batman’s ultimate antagonist after all.

UPDATE:

Christopher Nolan denied rumors about Heath Ledger’s Joker cameo in The Dark Knight Rises.

Nevertheless, re-casting the role of the Joker would be good for continuity.

Ghostbusters 3 Confirmed Rumors

By |2019-05-25T14:41:02-08:00November 28th, 2010|

Recently Dan Aykroyd confirmed with WGN Radio that not only is Ghostbusters 3 happening, but casting is already underway. Strong contenders include Anna Faris, Bill Hader, and Eliza Dushku. Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver are set to return for the third film.

It’ll be an interesting development. There shouldn’t be too much worry about the third Ghostbusters movie as long as Dan Aykroyd is writing the script; he has a lot of love for the franchise. Plus Weaver is still a strong actress. And Bill Murray is still just as funny ever. I’m entirely optimistic.

Miramax Brings Film Catalog to YouTube

By |2019-05-25T14:41:02-08:00November 24th, 2010|

Colony Capital bought Miramax for $660 million, and in an odd move partnered with YouTube to bring Miramax’s catalog of films onto the website.

Colony Captial intends to help further monetize both Miramax and YouTube; along with competing against NetFlix. If so, YouTube is due for an overhaul to display better quality videos.

So when is Miramax not surrounded by weird news?
