Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens Trailer

The trailer for director Jon Favreau’s film Cowboys and Aliens is released. Sure, the title is a little silly, but from what I’ve seen at Comic-Con and from the trailer — and a cast with Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, and Sam Rockwell — this adaptation of the comic book has a lot going for it.

Rumored Live-Action Batman TV Series

By |2024-12-04T17:12:25-08:00November 15th, 2010|

A rumor is making rounds that WB plans to bring a live-action Batman series to television after Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises is concluded. And why not? Batman would translate well on the medium — as proven by Batman: The Animated Series.

The unnamed head executive spearheading this endeavor wants the series to coincide with Nolan’s trilogy. And to state the obvious: while the series would follow the movies, the actors would be re-casted. So what does this mean? The Joker would be making a return as the main baddie. And WB wants this Joker to be a completely new version from Heath Ledger’s.

Smallville and BBC’s Sherlock Holmes success played a vital role in influencing WB into wanting a live-action Batman series. And a live-action version would translate perfectly: there won’t be a need for a lot of special effects; it can put more of a focus on Batman’s detective skills; and develop more of the villains and Arkham Asylum.

The fanboy in me is absolutely ecstatic. The potential is there. They can finally display his detective skills. And they can take full advantage of the entire rogues gallery. Do it, WB. It’s perfect timing. Smallville is coming to a close. Now bring us Batman.

The Wolverine Announced

The sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been given an official title that’s been revealed by director Darren Aronofsky: The Wolverine. It’s simple and short. I like it.

The new film will take place during Logan’s time in Japan. For those who don’t read the comics: in Japan Logan develops a relationship with a woman who’s being forced into an arranged marriage. Of course Logan is stubborn, so he ends up fighting against the woman’s father and and her samurai brothers.

The film will be a “one-off”, a standalone movie, said Aronofsky. It’s a smart move considering how horrible the first movie was. Hopefully their second outing with the character is done well; otherwise the nerd rage will reach Hulk proportions.

Martin Sheen in Spider-Man

Joining Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in director Marc Webb’s Spider-Man film is actor Martin Sheen. He’ll be portraying Peter Parker’s beloved Uncle Ben.

For those who don’t know (Who could that be? No, seriously.): Uncle Ben is Peter Parker’s beloved uncle who is more of a father figure. Uncle Ben teaches Peter morals and coins the famous quote, “With great power comes responsibility.”

I keep getting surprised by the casting for the Spider-Man remake, and I can’t help but be stoked for it.

Third Batman Film Gets Title

By |2024-12-04T17:12:28-08:00October 27th, 2010|

Director Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film has been given a title: The Dark Knight Rises. It’s underwhelming. The Dark Knight Returns would’ve gotten backlash from comic book fans since Nolan is intent on keeping Batman and Superman in separate movie universes. But there’s other titles that have potential.

Batman fell as a hero in the eyes of the public in the last film. The police no longer collaborate with him, and he’s wanted for murders he didn’t commit. A more relevant choice would’ve been Shadow of the Bat.

Chris Nolan went on to debunk rumors that the Riddler would be in the film. My choice at this point would be Black Mask. For those who don’t know: Black Mask is Roman Sionis, a man born in wealth who burned down his family’s mansion and killing his parents in the process. Years later Sionis became Black Mask due to the anger and humiliation of Bruce Wayne saving and taking over his failing company. As Black Mask, he forms the False Face Society, who gain power in the Gotham underworld.

Who better than Tom Hardy, who recently joined the cast? No, really. Hardy would be excellent in the role of Black Mask.

Disney Buys Distribution Rights to Marvel Films

By |2024-12-04T17:12:30-08:00October 20th, 2010|

Disney is making good on its investment on Marvel and has bought the distribution deals to the final two films in Paramount’s six-picture deal with Marvel Studios.

Paramount has kept its distribution and marketing rights for Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor; Disney has attained distribution and marketing for The Avengers and Iron Man 3 for $115 million.

So yes, that solidifies that there will be an Iron Man 3 — and that Disney means business. Marvel Studios’ current superheroes (sans X-Men and Spider-Man) will be under one roof which will work perfectly for the planned under-one-universe for the films.

Gotta drive it home again: their relationship is beautiful.
