It wasn’t long ago when news came out that the TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel, American Gods, was let go by HBO. They said that the writing for the project wasn’t up to par for the standard they wanted for the show, and thus, it didn’t pan out.
FremantleMedia found another home for American Gods on Starz.
I voiced a little concerned before, but with Gaiman still involved and learning that Bryan Fuller is too, I’m more optimistic. Fuller was who made Heroes more bearable, which is a huge feat considering – anyway! He’s a critically acclaimed writer, whose most current work is on Hannibal.
Unlike HBO, who probably uses Game of Thrones as their bar (Who could blame them?), Starz is confident in bringing a good television adaptation.
“With our partners at Fremantle Media and with Bryan, Michael and Neil, we believe we can create a series that honors the book and does right by the fans and viewers.”
-Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik.
I’m a fan of the novel. In fact, I think you should read it. Get it here.
It’s more than worth your time. Unless you want to wait for the show; by which I mean read it.
