X-Men: Days of Future Past is still in theaters but that hasn’t stopped Fox or Bryan Singer from sharing what the next installment will be. Entitled X-Men: Apocalypse, the film will follow the X-Men facing off against – yeah, you guessed it: Apocalypse. Following the last two X-Men films, it will also be a period piece; this time taking place in the 1980s, arguably the best decade.
What?
It looks like the latest addition to the cast is Channing Tatum as Gambit. It’s practically official. Fox wants him and Tatum expressed a lot of interest in the role. In fact, in a recent interview, he talked about Gambit’s heavy Cajun accent and how he wants to learn it for the role.
Tatum is a very fun actor to watch when he’s allowed to show his comedic side, which he can hilariously deadpan. Just watch 21 Jump Street. Right now. Then go to the theater and see 22 Jump Street. Or if that isn’t enough, watch Magic Mike for his dance skills – wait, what?
I’m pretty stoked that he’ll most likely portray Gambit. He has charisma and a screen presence – both of which are needed for the role. If he gets the Cajun accent down, he just might steal the show from Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. I’m strangely okay with that.
X-Men Apocalypse is slated for release May 27, 2016.
