Over the weekend — and on Monday — BBC’s 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who, The Day of the Doctor aired, and was screened in theaters. Ignoring ticket sales and U.K. ratings, the special is BBC America’s highest-rated broadcast. It’s safe to say that Doctor Who is immensely popular.
Not long after the 50th anniversary, BBC released more on the upcoming Christmas special, entitled The Time of the Doctor.
If you don’t want to know the synopsis, then please, do not read any farther.
“Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars – and amongst them, the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe…”
More, somewhat spoilers ahead?
It probably shouldn’t be considered spoilers since they made it no secret that the Christmas special is Matt Smith’s last episode portraying the Doctor. After all, there was a special that announced Peter Capaldi will play the next Doctor. But what we don’t know is what will cause Smith’s regeneration in The Time of the Doctor.
Oh yeah, there’s also a little teaser that was released as well:
The Time of the Doctor airs on — you guessed it — Christmas Day.
