Director Robert Rodriguez took Frank Miller’s graphic novel Sin City and made a heavily stylized comic book movie with a memorable cast. It wasn’t farfetched that he and the fans would want a sequel. The only problem was that it took years for the ball to get rolling. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is currently filming, and the latest actor to join is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Gordon-Levitt will portray Johnny, a new character who is described as a cocky gambler. And as we know from the first movie, there’s always something darker going on.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a brilliant choice, especially for a stylized movie influenced by film noir. He has experience from Rian Johnson’s Brick — which by the way, you should watch.
The only downside is knowing how Frank Miller writes female characters, which nearly ruined the Sin City movie for me. In every graphic novel by him, the women are either hookers or strippers. Except for Robin in The Dark Knight Returns. But I have a feeling that’s only because she’s underage. It’s evident that Miller has issues with women.
Regardless, I’m interested to see how the sequel turns out. It has a unique look. And Gordon-Levitt is a fun actor to see on screen.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is slated for release October 4.
