Jamie Foxx spoke a little more in detail about playing Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in recent interviews. In particular, he gave answers on his character arc and whether the film version of Electro will wear the comic book costume or not.
According to Foxx, Max Dillon is a man who doesn’t get credit for his work. But not only that, he’s practically nonexistent to everyone around him; no one ever mentions him by name. Spider-Man comes along, knowing his name, and asks Dillon to be his eyes and ears on the street. It gives Dillon a sense of purpose and recognition. But of course that never lasts for someone destined for villainy. His mother forgets his birthday, a tragedy occurs, and Dillon becomes Electro.
In the comics, Electro’s costume is green and yellow; pretty campy and bright for a villain — unless we’re talking about Loki. Anyway! Foxx mentioned that Electro’s costume is straying from the comic book counterpart, and will be along the lines of liquid rubber, with bolts implanted in his arms. It kind of makes me think of Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid or the Rubber Man in American Horror Story. But that’s besides the point. Jamie Foxx in S&M gear sounds horrifying(ly sexy).
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for release April 18, 2014.
