New show Revolution hasn’t aired yet but already has a strong presence. The pilot episode directed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau was shown at Comic-Con and made an impact on the audience. Then of course there was the huge banner that was lit up on the side of a hotel across the convention center.
One of my favorite parts of the pilot? Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad playing the antagonist, Captain Neville. Rather than being the cold, calculating Gus, his Neville is more expressive, although he isn’t above getting his hands dirty. He isn’t your typical villain.
“I think people are going to be confused as to whether he’s a good or bad guy. Right in the beginning, you know or are led to believe that he’s absolutely a bad guy, but then you’re going to see him have compassion, and you’re going to be maybe a little confused. He has a heart.
–Giancarlo Esposito
Before electricity worldwide mysteriously vanished, Captain Neville was merely an insurance adjuster — clearly a more villainous role than as the militia captain that he becomes. That alone is character development towards a more heroic role — I mean . . . what?
Revolution finally premieres September 17 on NBC.
