The Mortal Kombat remake is pushing forward with Kevin Tancharoen directing from Oren Uziel’s script. Yeah, with a well-recieved webseries, fans are stoked for a big screen reboot. But the premise is an odd surprise:
“The live-action reboot will follow a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is.”
Sounds far from the roster of badassess who compete to the death for the fate of Earthrealm. It practically sounds like a martial art comedy that should star Stephen Chow — wait, I’m on to something. Let’s drop the Mortal Kombat name and hire Stephen Chow to direct and star. It could work out fine.
But seriously — a Mortal Kombat movie with a supermarket employee as the lead? Hopefully there’s no truth to the story or there will be fans raging. Then again, that’d be fun to see.
