The prequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing has released a teaser poster for the upcoming film. The premise? A team of scientists in the Antartic discover “the thing”, a creature capable of posing as any living being. And just like the original, fear and paranoia spread throughout the team.

I enjoyed the original starring Kurt Russell very much, but I’m cautiously optimistic for the prequel. As long as it captures the same foreboding feel of the first film, I’ll be happy.

The Thing stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Abaje and Eric Christian Olsen — and releases October 14, 2011.
