A new photo for the remake of Judge Dredd unveiled online with Karl Urban in full costume. The remake will take more inspiration from the 2000 AD comic rather than the original film that starred Sylvester Stallone. The Stallone version was a lot of fun, but I’m intrigued by the fact that the remake wants to focus more on the authoritarianism that the comic portrays.
Another interesting thing is that Urban will keep the helmet on for the entire duration of the film — a bold move for a movie since V for Vendetta. And just like V, Judge Dredd is more of an ideal than a person.
“It sums up the facelessness of justice − justice has no soul. So it isn’t necessary for readers to see Dredd’s face, and I don’t want you to.”
–Writer and co-creator John Wagner
Joining Karl Urban is Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, Langley Kirkwood and Domhnall Gleeson.
Judge Dredd hits theaters this December.
