Remember the Mortal Kombat short that hit YouTube last year? All the interest generated propelled it forward with continued production as a live-action online series.
Michael Jai White (Spawn) reprises his role as Jax Briggs; as well as Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager) as Sonya Blade. Darren Shahlavi of 300 joins the cast as criminal Kano.
Written by Kevin Tancharoen, Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth releases online this spring by Warner Bros.; Tancharoen also directs and produces the online series.
“It’s extremely gratifying to have such talented actors playing these iconic roles. They will bring the essence of Mortal Kombat to life and gamers will be deeply immersed into the game’s universe.”
— Kevin Tancharoen
The online series is an anthology of shorts to provide insight into each character that are in the upcoming game — yes, there’s a game coming out as well, which will release on April 19th, 2011 — which you can pre-order HERE.
I believe Ian Anthony Dale is reprising his role as Scorpion due to his twitter. I cannot wait for this!
Whooooa! So awesome. Most online series look pretty lame. I love the filming style. The lighting looks cool, and the camera angles are interesting. The head eating scene made me nauseous! Intense.
The online series definitely has potential with all the people involved.
