The new James Bond film that was to be directed by Sam Mendes, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as the titled character, has been officially shut down.
Co-funding the film, MGM has found itself under immense debt which has hindered the movie from moving forward. Unfortunately, a production crew were already putting in hours to put it together when it ultimately got the axe.
There’s still a possibility that filming will resume; with Spyglass Entertainment in talks, and also Summit Entertainment. Production company EON intends to keep the Bond franchise alive. There’s optimism that Bond will eventually be back on track.
When there’s a suitable replacement, hopefully Daniel Craig will still have the role. It would be a shame to recast the part. He’s made a good James Bond in the last two films.
I don’t think Daniel Craig makes a good James Bond. His last movie made me fall asleep. The old James Bond actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore are hard to replace although Timothy Dalton did a good job in License to Kill, which is one of my favorites. If they do bring back James Bond, I too hope for a suitable replacement but please not Daniel Craig.
Sam Mendes is the man. If it does get made it will be a lot better than the last one. But alas, Martin Campbell was the best Bond director.
