It doesn’t seem too long ago that Fantastic Four released in theaters and showed us just how fantastic Chris Evans was as the Human Torch. It was the beginning of his ascent in comic book movies as the legendary Captain America.
Wait . . . this post was supposed to be about Fantastic Four.
The sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, took things too far with a blue-eyed, blonde Jessica Alba, and a Galactus made of clouds. Not even Evans could save the franchise from entering limbo.
20th Century Fox wouldn’t give up and set their sights on a remake. Comic book movies, after all, are still huge. So why give up their rights when they could try again? Once again, Evans will — no, I’m kidding. He will forever be Steve Rogers. The remake has its new fantastic cast, and it’s casting no one really expected.
Miles Teller (21 & Over) will play Reed Richards, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle) as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell (Jumper) as Ben Grimm.
Hopefully, they learned their lesson and won’t make Jordan wear blue contacts and a blonde wig.
What makes me look forward to it — besides Mara and Jordan portraying the Storm siblings — is that Josh Trank is directing. He directed the incredible movie, Chronicle. If you haven’t seen it, you really should.
Fantastic Four is slated for release June 19, 2015.
