In August I wrote a post on Guillermo del Toro’s screenplay adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness. And del Toro looks to be in the director seat with James Cameron as producer. How exciting is that?

In a recent interview Guillermo del Toro said that he’s written a role specifically for actor Ron Perlman (Hellboy/Sons of Anarchy). All that it will take is for Perlman’s schedule to be free and he’s in.

“Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him. Ron plays Larson, the sort of dog guy, the guy that cares for the dogs and the sled. … It’s a fantastic character. I really love him. He’s sort of a pragmatic guy, doesn’t care about science or the mythology or the cosmology. He just is a hard-boiled Nordic man.”

-Guillermo del Toro

I really want it to happen. Ron Perlman is a good actor and I really enjoyed his work on both Hellboy films. He would be no stranger to a film inspired by Lovecraft. He’d be a great fit.

Do yourself a favor and watch both Hellboy films (Hellboy/Hellboy 2: The Golden Army) for del Toro’s and Perlman’s work together. Then watch del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth. You know you want to.

Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron together on a film adaptation of a H.P. Lovecraft horror novel? And the possibility of Ron Perlman’s involvement? I’m in. All in.
